I actually performed a number of tests on my cognition, on and off the meds over the course of one summer.
I encapsulated my antidepressant (zoloft) in a genaric coated gellcap, and then randomly took either a placebo or the real pill.
Then I would perform a series of memory, concentration, mathematical speed, music etc.
After the tests, I would open the other capsule to determine if I had taken a dummy or the real thing.
I found that my memory for flashing light pattern game was consistantly about 3/4 of that off the zoloft. My concentration too was poorer as indicated by number of pages read till getting bored. In a timed computerized flahscard math game I consistantly made more mathematical errors, although it increased responce time.
Playing the piano, I felt my timing was worse (subjective), and an audio recording revealed more errors. There could be many obviously flaws in this type of study, but it seemed to confirm my grades as related to my on med/off med pattern.
I repeated for a few months. I allowed for a wahsout, when I had indeed taken the active drug.
