I don't think I've seen any big effect on my cognitive functioning due to antidepressants. I guess the one negative effect they might have had is that when I took Paxil I noticed I became somewhat apathetic, which would affect my response to deadline pressures.

I do believe *being* depressed has a definite impact, however. So I wonder whether it's your depression, rather than the meds, that is clobbering your ability to concentrate. I've definitely experienced that problem, both on and off meds, and in my case attribute the academic struggle more to the depression than the treatment.
