I never had a job interview with HR, thank heavens, or I'd have never gotten a job. Sometimes it seems like it's a club initiation. They ask you stupid questions, and you have to give the "correct" stupid answers so that they know you're one of them, a team player.
All they really need to know is if you have the capability to do the job and the responsibility to do it consistently. Unless of course the job involves the public, and smiling through stupid questions.
Is a temp agency a possibility? I know a few people who were hired full time after working as a temp, because the people who would have to work with them got to know them. Of course, every job and the path thereto is different.
