My grandmother used to take us to the beach more than weekly during the summer. She was a brave woman because there were five of us. Maybe it's because we all sensed deep down, beneath her indulgent behavior, she was really nuts that we behaved perfectly.
Anyways, she would sit in her beach chair for hours while we played. I remember her remarking upon two things. The first was that young people were beautiful, and she enjoyed watching them. The second was that she tried to explain the
deep pleasure and sense of transport she derived from staring out at the green curve of the Atlantic. How ships in the distance would disappear behind the curving horizon.I think she enjoyed our outings perhaps more than we did. Respite from a claustrophobic marriage.
Anyways gadchik, I'm not sure how I would fare at sea. Giddy and terrified maybe. Maybe just happy now that I am older to be so away from the land lights and noise and any distraction. That was how Kuai felt at night this past year. Even though it is an island.
I dig a pony.
