I've always enjoyed the way Americans say 'horrid'.
The only Australians I can recall saying that are from my grandparents generation.
What we say here, with only a small amount of irony is

The weather is not a safe subject in Australia, perhaps like Canada? (so much stupid snow!)
My son brought a Canadian girl to stay for a couple of days: It is lovely having young people around.
One of the better things about getting older is that you appreciate the beauty of youth, which was certainly wasted on me back then.
