I would have felt badly also.
I don't think I could possibly be a cashier. I get flustered dealing with numbers, etc. - especially having to do so quickly.
I think I'd feel very 'on-the-spot' & totally stressed.
I am always impressed by anyone who can be a cashier.

PS - everyone makes mistakes. I understand you feeling badly. In those types of circumstances, I find the "tombstone method" works well for me....in this case, if it had been me, I'd imagine the following on my tombstone, once I die:
"Kath..... 1947 - **** Punched in the wrong price on a lady's food order."
Helps me put things into perspective.
