Well, if I did get a new one, my old (not old really - two years old with two motherboard replacements) laptop would go to my son. He uses an ancient desktop that's already died once. Since Katrina, I totally oppose desktops in New Orleans. A computer should be able to be evacuated with the family and pets. And it doesn't matter nearly as much if his computer needs to go to the shop for a week, because he's not relying on it for work.
Each of these failures costs me weeks of productivity. The hourly earnings I lose because of trying to put together a temporary computer, and trying to jumpstart the broken one then reinstalling all the programs, are considerable.
I guess the more reliable a computer is and the longer it lasts, the less wasted is involved.
Good grief. I seem to be arguing myself into one again.
