As RJ suggested, make sure everything is wired correctly and that you've got the ethernet cable going from your modem to the correct place on the router.
When in doubt, unplug everything, plug it back in, hit the reset button on your router to restore to factory defaults (probably a teeny button somewhere on the back. I have to stick a pencil in a hole to reset mine).
Do the correct lights on your router light up (indicators for internet and wireless)?
Is your computer not picking up the wireless signal? For starters, you can go into "My Network Places" under the "start" menu (if using Windows XP), and see if your router is showing up as an option. If so, hit "connect" and see what happens.
If it's not showing up, try right clicking on "My computer", go into "properties", "hardware", "device manager", and "network adapters". Make sure the wireless card is enabled. You can also try to troubleshoot your wireless card in that same window.
There are probably other things you can do that others here will suggest.
If you exhaust all options, there's always the possibility that either your wireless card or router is malfunctioning.
