You know I saw the "IDOL" hallelujia, and thought at least it's not as overwrought as many of the more well known singers who've covered it.
Even KD Lang, and she's got an amazing voice,
and I love a lot of a her work, but she
"Celine Dioned" it. like the song was just a vehicle for her voice..You can do that with Patsy Cline.
Not with songs like Hallelujia,Jeff Buckley.. it's his song.

I was downloading Suzanne, because the lyrics near the end make me shiver.I'd start listening to it and
think damn that's that guy again it's NOT leonard cohen (I was.. not buying the song, so you know I thought someone had mislabeled it)
I did this about 4 times..
Finally I watched it on You Tube and realized
that it was him, and his voice has changed
so much for the better I think. Very mellow and smoke enhanced.Some people can see the underbelly, and write, or sing about it, and leave you hanging with that
open wound. That's not bad, that's what music is for,
Somehow Cohen is more aware, just as cynical, but
there's a comfort or optimism with it.I don't know.. he just never stops putting me in awe, like Shakespeare how can one person just KNOW everything about human nature..
And I feel fortunate that I am living in the same time as he is.
And apparently he's a really really nice guy too..
