I was first introduced to Mr. Cohen when I heard Tom Cochrane cover "Bird on A Wire" live many years ago. I loved that song so much, I had to seek out the original.
The original is still the sweetest, of course. I honestly cannot believe that this guy has dodged hundreds of consistent #1 hits. But, he is like those good 'artistes', who put the art form and substance over commercial style. (Even though their style is pretty damn amazing!) I was also recently reading an article where Peter Gabriel was citing Leonard as one of the biggest influences in his life. It's amazing the change over the years in Leonard's voice, but it still has *that signature* to it. I haven't heard that "American Idol" (or whatever contest it was) winner's commercial attempt at Hallelujah, but my thoughts on it: pathetic. It's ART, not a f*ck*ng game show!..lol.
They don't make kinds like him anymore...and that is so sad. Depressing to think about, actually.
Jay :)
