So sorry. Being tired & not being able to sleep is a horrible feeling.
I know this is pretty basic, but what helps me is the following:
Make warm milk & honey (or sugar, I guess, but honey is more soothing) & take it with about 3 calcium/magnesium tabs (or calcium on it's own would probably do it). I find that this helps. Now, it could be that I usually wait for hours NOT being able to sleep & then finally make myself get up & make this....maybe by that time it just helps push me over the edge into sleep.
If you can't sleep anyway, & have a book you can enjoy, maybe you can read with a bedside lamp & you will either 1) enjoy your book or 2) start to find you're reading the same sentence over & over, with eyes drooping & then sneakily turn out light, close eyes & drift off.
