Social Work is what I wanted to go into too, so I've investigated their earnings a little bit. When people speak of jobs having low pay its usually not as bad as you think. You may never get rich doing it, but I think it would pay the bills, and you would be well off by the standards of alot of people. You just have to consider the source.
If you have your Masters, I would think that would give you the advantage to move up and make more money. It may not be easy, but I don't think you're going to be starving or anything.
Of course this is all speculation on my part, so take it for what its worth. You can look it up on the internet though.
