Tex, I like this sentiment a lot :o)
And I will add that it's also important to try to help people you know too, not just strangers.
I have long taken the attitude that it's better to be friendly (or at least civil) to difficult people, because you'd rather be friends with them than enemies, no?
But sometimes it becomes necessary to protect onesself, and not allow other people to take advantage of our kindness (see my narcissistic friend post, below)
