Why does crying dry out my eyes?

That just seems so counterintuitive, doesn't it? Why is it that it happens?
This struck me as more Social than Health, by the way, because it seems like one of those questions like, "If you wash your hair with shampoo, what's real poo?" I know it's more serious a question, but it still seemed much less a health question.
If anyone thinks I'm wrong, though, it's redirectable...
