I was against it at first. My dh demands that I let my children go trick a treating. I am glad that I did let my children go . I just dont dress them up in an evil costume. They have been an angel, a bummble bee, a dancer. This year, my five year old will be a teddy bear.
My dh usually takes the little one trick a treating for a little while and then we (me and my little one) go to church. At church, there are games, praise and worship, hot dogs, it is really fun.
Maybe you guys could do that as an alternative to holloween. You could have a bible character theme in which the little ones dress up like a bible character. You could have a costume contest. Just glorify God that night. That way the kids do not feel like they are missing out on what other children are doing holloween night. It is a much safer environment to have a "harvest fest" at church.
Just a thought : )
