Demoralising. Sounds demoralising :-(
Hmm.
Is it a general library or an academic library?
Do they have other positions available within the library that you could apply for?
Could you try and hit them up for a pay rise?
(They worst they can say is 'no')
Are there other libraries around where you might be able to get a job for more pay?I'm just thinking... I know someone who got a biology degree then worked as a teacher for a bit. The stress got too much so she left and took a job as a cataloguer (assigning bar codes and call codes to books). She liked the work atmosphere (lots of shared lunches and nice people) but the pay wasn't great... Then they noticed she had a degree in biology. They paid for her to take some library courses via correspondance... She ended up with some qualification or other and now is the head science librarian. She runs tutorials teaching science students how to conduct efficient database searches etc etc. She loves it.
I'm wondering whether there might be prospects for anything like that?
I understand about how being paid less than others can be really demoralising... But are there prospects of a raise or a new position???
