jay:
i'm a crazy canucklehead that has moved to the USA for work. I've crossed the border with my meds approximately once every two weeks for the last five months.
I have NEVER, NEVER been questioned about my meds. I have had my vehicle searched at the car crossing, and had my bag searched at the airport, and they did NOT question me about my medications in either case. I watched the guy at the airport search my bag. He saw the prescription drugs but did not even look at the label or open the container.
Now I am not schizophrenic or psychotic. I'm cyclothymic (mild bipolar). However, the US government saw fit to issue me a visa. A US company saw fit to hire me. And a background check did not turn up my diagnosis.
Your mileage may vary. But I say, go ahead, party on, cross that border. I've done it before and I'll do it again. Stories like this are quite frequently just hype to sell papers.
ps - I don't have a passport and I have never been fingerprinted by the US government
