I'm really happy to meet you here.I know something of what you are telling us here. I SI also. I have managed to avoid it for the past few weeks. I had a hospital stay a few weeks ago, and that was a good point for me to stop.
I'm also on Effexor, and a whole bunch of other meds. I guess the most important lesson that I've learned about the meds is to keep taking them. If some of the side-effects are uncomfortable, talk it over with your doctor. Effexor is REALLY tough to come down from.
You are a really good friend to have helped your friend out that way. I think that only those of us who are going through this stuff can really understand what it's like.
