EMDR is "bilateral stimulation". Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing is what the EMDR means. It's good for phobias, eating disorders, memories of sexual abuse and post-traumatic stress.
This therapy was created by Francine Shapiro. She was walking in a park while trying to overcome her own stress when she realized that her fears seemed to diminish as she looked from side to side at the scenery around her. Her subsequent experiments showed that others reacted the same way, and a formal controlled study also showed that the technique had therapeutic value.
It was orginally used for treating Vietnam War veterans with post traumatic stess disorder.
Sometimes the technique can bring about marked improvement in only one or two sessions.
I went to my EMDR therapist for 1 year and worked out so many problems that I feel like a new person. I am so unemcumberded by the old stresses that my personal vibrations are more mellow. Very mellow. I was hyper....very hyper vigilant. It was my gift to myself. To become who I really am not who all the horrible experiences could have made me be.
So I am happier and healthier and more easy about myself. I am so glad you asked.
