Amazing ( well not really, I guess there were tough broads back then too) I just remember thinking of older people as Just Grandma's and Grandpa's. Never really thinking (hey I was young) that all those "cool" people I read about got old too, and didn't suddenly learn to enjoy watching T.V. game shows at the nursing home.

I met a woman when I was doing homecare she was 98. She was a rarity who had no predjucice against the natives in Manitoba when she was a young woman.
She used to give the kids candy when she saw them. Anyway, this was in Winnipeg which was still very "untamed wilderness"
One day there was one of the classic prarie snow storms, which wiped out most of the barns and some of the houses as there is really nothing to block the wind in the praries.

Her house was fine. It turned out the families of the Native children had barricaded it with (I think) tall shrubs, during the night. It was just enough to brace it from wind and they had known a storm was coming. They told her it was because "she was kind to papoose".

P.S My mom says she's happier in her 70's than she's ever been. It helps me stay positive (occasionally) because I always think it will be worse as a get older. The fear, and Lonliness part anyway.
