Hey, I had dinner with a friend of mine who turned 89 this weekend. She started the first interracial private school in Washington D.C. about 50 years ago; her husband worked for the Truman administration.
It was a great time. She's still working on her creative writing and democratic politics. (She told me "I finally got the school board the way it should be." HEE HEE)
Anyways, she said that she was often depressed when she was younger but has been happiest in life since turning 80. She also said that in her opinion, people in their 50's are hard to get along with; she likened it to being another adolescence in terms of the changes that go on in your life at the time.
The whole experience made me feel more hopeful for the future --
