I agree that if they didn't control for other factors, it muddies the research. For example, my mother is a lefty but was forced to write righty when she started school. I think this is probably rather common in people over a certain age. She has always been rather unconfident in her writing skills, despite a lot of education, etc. and excellent reading abilities, etc. I have always wondered what part being forced to write righty might have played.
