What does Borderline Psychotic mean?

Posted by Dinah on July 30, 2001, at 10:12:19

I recently requested my psychiatric records from 1974 when I was 12 in an attempt to better understand that difficult time in my life. Although those records seem to have been routinely destroyed long ago, there was some information in my pediatric chart written by my psychiatrist. First I found that instead of the Valium I thought I was taking, I was actually on 100 mg Thorazine. Also, the psychiatrist indicated that my psychological testing had shown "borderline psychotic functioning". I realize that the meaning of "borderline" was not the same in 1974 as it is today. Does anyone have any idea what "borderline psychotic functioning" would have meant in 1974 in connection with a 12 year old?
