Gosh that is a lot to have gone through in 25 years. Agree w/ your GP about the caregiver/patient relationship....must have been hard to hear but also maybe a little relief as someone else saw and knew how hard it has been.

Definitely go for the counseling. >>I want him to get counseling to deal with the breakup, not to reunite.<< that's good you're clear about what you want and need!

you need some time to allow yourself to find yourself after so many years of being drained from the caretaking role you ended up in.

good luck for taking gentle steps on this healing journey.
