How do you know when you're ready to leave therapy

Posted by winsome on August 2, 2013, at 10:09:02

I am very attached to my therapist. I asked him this question, "when do you know you are ready to terminate therapy?" He said I would know I didn't need to come any more. I asked, "What is the patient never chooses to be done with therapy?" He said I asked the hardest questions and took awhile to think about this. His answer was something about not becoming too dependent on therapy. Hmm, aren't we all dependent in the therapy relationship? I didn't want to push him further but his answer seems vague. Any opinions on this? Maybe I will never feel ready to be done. Winsome
