I'm not particularly affected by this story but my general strategy is to avoid the news coverage when it upsets me. Definitely all TV coverage and probably as much as possible of the print/internet media as well. For one thing I've found that it's rarely "news" but most often a continuous rehashing sprinkled with speculations. And the day to day coverage so often seems to deliberate try to enflame your emotions. That really angers me but in the end that anger at them for trying to manipulate me also makes it easier for me to stay away.
In the end I've found I know just as much about what happened by only reading a summary at the end of the week or month and I miss out on a lot of the stress.
I'm also avoiding most of this coverage currently. It seems to be long on hype and short on actual content right now.
Good luck.
