You go to the Safari word in the far left side of your screen click on it and empty cache is the 7th option down. Do this periodically and it will help your mac run faster. You can also empty cookies because they will slow your machine down too if your cookie cache get too big. Go to Safari, click preferences there a button that says show cookies and you will have a list of all of them. Then you have the options to delete all or selection those you want to delete using the control button and highlight all you want to delete. If you don't recognize the cookie delete it) It will empty all saved passwords too if you select delete all but that is better than having so many cookies saved. It slows things down.
There are other solutions but try those first.
