I'm glad he was more receptive.
It's interesting he commented on your smell - maybe this was his unconscious speaking - or perhaps it was very conscious?! At least, whatever he thinks about your shower gel, he accepted your reasons and need for that stinky thing to be removed from the office. I guess you can't expect him to fully understand the difference between subtle tolerable scents and full-on headache-inducing onces if he was willing to put the reed diffuser there in the first place.
Just glad you don't have to endure any more headaches (at least of the scent-induced kind) when you go to therapy.
