antigua...i am very interested as to what you doc says...because i have had this alot in the past.
it seems the worse my depression or anxiety the more often i hear them. many times i hear 'chatter', meaning i hear several people 'talking' but i can clearly understand anything they're saying.
that's also why i almost always have the tv on. cuz this way i can blame the tv for the sounds i hear :)
sometimes though i think i just get over stimulated (acoustically) as well.to me it's the 'single' voices that scared me. the 'chatter' was more of an annoyance.

sorry, to answer your question. i've heard various answers as to what could be causing this. it could be depression, anxiety, auditory 'overload', medication, and yes, someone mentioned an auditory memory as well. these are all very valid possibilities. my guess is your doc just wants to rule out anything major.
until then, stress may exacerbate it. so if you can, take deep breaths and do some self-soothing activies.and until you find out...((((((antigua)))))))))))
we're here.best wishes
b2c.
