I am in therapy for the 2nd time with a 15 year break.

I think Madeline is completely right. It is more like ending a relationship. The first year is by far the most difficult, especially as I neared the holidays. Once I got past the first year, although I didn't forget her or our work together, it just wasn't as painful. Our ending bothered me and that feeling always lingered.

From your post, it sounded like you had a nice ending, although sad. My t says, "When you leave it will be bittersweet for the both of us." And I think that is exactly right. It's okay and perfectly appropriate to be sad. It would be like if your very best friend moved to China. You would be happy for her and think of her, you just don't have the same access to her as you once did.

Did she say anything to you at the last session that left the door open?
