I wanted to give an update on my EMDR therapy, which I do once a week, in addition to the ongoing analysis. I think it's been really helpful in dealing with early fearful, guilt-ridden parts of me. We access a very painful early feeling-state from those years, and then do either eye movements or an auditory alternating left-right brain stimulus. I think we are first accessing my right hemisphere, where all the pain and dissociated parts seem to be, and then the left hemisphere, which is where the self-soothing and feelings of well-being lie. Through all of this, I'm sort of automatically learning to do self-soothing, comforting things for myself- without realizing it intentionally. I'd really recommend it for anyone with a trauma history- which is all of us, I guess!
It's making the analysis go better, too. I can feel more responsible for my "parts", because I'm getting to know more about them. I act them out with him much less, so more good things are happening there too- good, caring things which my young parts need so badly. Well, that's really all for now, but I do hope other traumatized babblers will keep it in mind as a possible wonderful addition to their regular therapy.
