Hi Happyflower,
I'd tell him that you don't feel like talking and see what he says.
Personally I like to stare at my shoes. The view out her window is of a parking lot. If the view is nicer than your shoes, I say the window. I'd never sit and stare at my T. At the picture next to her on the wall, but not at her.
