The term refers to any issue known generally to be a sensitive one and likely to "trigger" or elicit intense feelings from those reading the post.

Very often this term will appear in the subject line when the post discusses sensitive topics... like for instance sexual abuse, suicidal ideation, self injury..stuff like that.

Really it could be anything depending on the person, for instance I am "triggered" by discussion of religion because of my history, it gets me pretty upset.

People put it in the subject line of their posts to give a warning to people for things generally known as upsetting (not my little religion thing).
