If your T is more psychodynamic in nature, he/she will apprepriate hearing about the dream. As Daisy said, it is more about what you think about the dream, the feelings it brings up, than anything else.
As a side note, I shared a dream with my T a few weeks ago. This dream is still the content of my 3x a week sessions. I told her sharing this dream probably saved me 6 months of therapy, it certainly was a gift, albeit a painful one.
I know how embarassing it is to share these dreams. I let her know the dream I was about to share was uncomfortable for me to tell her, but I thought it was important. Then I covered my face and just went for it. I feel so much more connected to my T now, although immediately afterwords I felt so vulnerable that I slipped back inside myself.
Do you feel like sharing the dream with us? or journal it? I shared my dream here first. It helped me put words to what I experienced, and was a "practice" round.
Of course, if your T is a short term cognitive type, then I do not know if they look at dreams for insight.
Good Luck!
