Hi cricket, don't worry about feeling p***y! I'm on the edge today, so I'm right there with you.
My T. is psychodynamically oriented, not CBT. I've been in CBT before, and this is worlds different.
The only time my T. has made concrete suggestions to me is when I was going through a highly hostile crisis situation at my job at the time. I can't go into the details of the situation (wish I could), but at the time he was making very concrete recommendations on ways I could protect myself and work with the people I had on my side, so they could help me. Plus steps to take so I wouldn't go completely out of control!
Besides this situation, everything else is dealt with super-psychodynamically. For me, it's a completely different way of thinking...I tend to be results-oriented, but oddly didn't get much from CBT. I think it was my old T.'s inexperience, but it ended up really turning me off of CBT.
I hope this helps. Take care.
