I mean it is not the facts that are hateful or hurtful - it is the INTERPRETATION of the facts.
There can be more or less hateful or hurtful ways of DESCRIBING the facts as well though.
It seems to me that hatefulness / hurtfulness is NEVER justified. Not in science nor anywhere else.
It is our INTERPRETATIONS and LENSES through which we view the world that can be hateful / hurtful. But that is an artifact of us humans viewing the world from a perspective / interpretation.
So we always have the choice.
When hateful / hurtful things are supposedly justified by science - well, that lies on a misunderstanding of science and the contribution of the human mind (interpretation and perspectives) in scientific inquirey.
I believe that scientists have more of an obligation to be kind and fair in their interpretations and perspectives than others for the simple reason that others consider them authoratitive. Even though when it comes to perspectives and interpretations science is not authoratative at all. To say that it is is to ask science to do more than it can..
Just my 2c worth :-)
