A prime example here is work that was done on innateness v's experience when it comes to intelligence. They found that yellow people were smartest then white people then black people. They ended up concluding something like educating the 'stupid' was all a waste of time.
That was done in the name of science, but it was hateful nonetheless.
Turns out now that no way were their conclusions warranted based on the evidence.
Turns out that that happens an awful lot in science.
When that happens then you can be remembered for having said something pleasant but wrong or hateful and wrong.
If you bear in mind that future evidence may well go the other way then what you say says more about you than the state of the world.
There is indeed room for humanity in science.
Some people just forget that.
