It's best to get the cognitive behavioral therapy with a therapist who specializes in it, and you can use the book alongside your therapy. CBT was a huge turning point in my battle against social anxiety.
There's a less well-known (but somewhat more relevant) book by David Burns called "Intimate Connections" which applies CBT to social situations and interactions.
