I'm not sure I have the same problem you have, but yes, at nine years into therapy, I sometimes feel my therapist has exhausted the positive action ideas he has about me. :) Now it seems that the conversation is a lot of reminding me that that's how I am, or suggestions that things could be different without a whole lot of guidance on how to get from a to b.
Have you discussed this with your therapist? It could possibly be that your therapist is waiting for the ideas about what is wrong and what could be changed to come from you. Or perhaps they have some other theory of change that is driving their style. Or maybe that's just what they do, and don't really have a plan behind it. But it would be interesting to find out.
I do think it's possible, though, that different types of therapy are right for the same person at different points in their journey. Depending on how flexible your therapist is, that may or may not involve a different therapist. How attached are you to this one? If you're really attached, seeing if she/he has a wider repertoire when you express the desire for a different approach might be the way to go.
