Hi Hannah,

My husband is a massage and craniosacral therapist. My therapist does energy work. So I have some knowledge on this subject.

Massage therapy is great for stress release and relaxation. With massage the therapist is physically touching your body to release tension in your muscles. When the tension is released you feel more relaxed. When your body relaxes, your brain relaxes and so you feel less stressed out physically and mentally.

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a light-touch involving the bones of the skull, face and mouth. It is not as physically invasive as massage. CST
induces a deep state of relaxation which can help balance the mind and body and promote healing.

I haven't had craniosacral therapy, myself, but my husband's clients say that they feel a release of tension.

I have had energy work (reiki and others) done on me by my therapist. She just lightly touches my shoulders and sends positive energy into my body. How she does that I can't explain, but I do feel warmth throughout my body as she's doing it. Physically and mentally I feel relaxed. When she did energy work from the "Hawaiian Huna" disclipline my face ended up flushed, like I'd been in the sun.

The effect of energy work doesn't last long, but for a few hours or so I am less tense.

I hope this helps you.
