First of all, going cold turkey from 12mg of xanax is a life-threatening procedure- although I imagine that's why they did it in a hospital. I've had manic episodes where I went up to a week w/o sleep, but I bet I dozed at times and wasn't aware of it- perhaps that's what happened to you. I don't think your current sleep disorder is related to a 10 y.o. drug withdrawal, but I think it would probably help you a great deal to see a sleep expert (there are also sleeep clinics).
