That's what had me wondering. To the best of my knowledge, both the SI and the D/s aspects were accurately depicted. (No judgment here on either one, BTW) It was the transformation from SI to sub (and your assessment is correct, methinks!), that hit my "rant" button.
My presumption of the movie was that the movie proferred the thought that SI can be replaced w/D/s and fulfillment is achieved.
I'm fascinated by the concept but then, I once spent twenty minutes watching a Yellowjacket eat a tiny bit of chocolate.
