Hi Spriggy. A few years ago, I read that most sinus infections are caused by fungi. I don't know whether otolaryngologists still believe that to be the case, but that was the consensus a few years ago. I do know that one particular type of mold is supposed to be very bad. I wish I could remember the name of it. I will look it up. I know that it's a black mold that tends to grow in wet basements, often behind wood panelling. It's NOT the same fungus that you see in the bathroom, which is usually a pinkish color. One room in my house has been smelling mildewy lately. I've been trying to figure out exactly where the odor is coming from. I can't tell whether it's a leak from the roof (I don't see any ceiling stains) or whether it's from below. If I'm able to find out the information I mentioned above, I'll let you know.
