In reply to what kind of foods are good for hypoglycemia?, posted by Spriggy on April 7, 2005, at 13:04:00

Hi Spriggy,

I picked up a few flyers at the natural foods store today. One of them contained a list of typical low glycemic foods and typical high glycemic foods. Here they are:

Low Glycemic Foods release sugar into the bloodstream gradually:

Legumes (lentils, chick peas, kidney beans, white bean)
Whole-grain Rye bread
Whole-grain high fiber cereals
Whole-grain pasta
Oranges
Bulgur
Organic milk and yogurt
Brown rice
********************************************
High Glycemic foods release large amounts of sugar into the blood stream very quickly and produce sharp rises in blood sugar levels:

Soft drinks
White rice
White bread
French fried potatoes
Jams
High-sugar cereals
Corn
Orange juice
Corn chips
