low heart rate

Posted by CareBear04 on March 31, 2005, at 14:27:29

for at least six months, my normal heart rate has been around 100bpm, which is considered fast. my blood pressure, on the other hand, has been around 80/50 whereas normal is 120/60. since i've started exercising and being more active, i've noticed that my pulse has been dropping. i've also changed up my adderall routine so that i take a dose of extended release in the morning and another early in the afternoon. i couldn't feel them working anymore, so i've been taking them on an empty stomach and waiting an hour before eating. now they work better, but my appetite is also very suppressed so that i haven't been eating well while still exercising, and i've lost about three pounds in a week.

my question concerns my pulse. i know that it's normal for athletes to have low resting heart rates and for pulse to decrease as one gets more fit. yesterday evening, though, i counted only about 40 beats per minute, which is a huge change from 100 or more bpm. does exercise explain away this difference, or should i be concerned about the change? is a pulse this low dangerous when combined with low blood pressure? i don't know whether this question belongs here or on the health board, so i'll post it to both, i guess. thanks!
