I do think Phil's idea of using an example to illustrate the point was a good one, and usually very helpful to me when I'm trying to understand something as it puts it in context.
So how about this scenario.
You are a copier seller for a newish local company. It is your job to call various businesses from, oh I don't know enough about where this information can be obtained, say, the telephone book. You want to sell them a copier, not necessarily the most expensive one, because the main money really comes from the service contract. So you are allowed to sell them the copier that really does best fit their needs.
