And why I keep up with the tradition of reading them cover to cover..
It was when I probably at my pooreliest.. For 3 days I had sat on my sofa, or hidden under my duvet, and awake and totally freaking out. All I could think about was killing myself, I had taken a number of "small" overdoses and had put THE plan into action. I had enough sense when designing the plan that it would take atleast 12 hours to undertake..
I had a night ahead of me, and I was awake still and just waiting. My husband had bought me a series of 3 books that were taking childrens literature by storm. To kill some time I picked teh first one up.
18 hours later and two books down, I was stil alive, I ddn't want to carry out my plan and I slept. After I slept, I read the 3rd book cover to cover.
They are gripping and exciting.. They take you away from your reality, which is what I love about a really good book. You can immerse yourself in it, and really know what everything looks like, and smells like..
Yes, to me they are worth all the hype.. They saved my life - and I don't mean that lightly.
