I think I may have to head downstairs and toss these guys a curveball on the topic. G-d in Hummels, they deserve each other!
Dworkin's an anesthesiologist, but having an M.D. gives you the authority to write about anything, as a good friend of mine once pointed out. You would think that someone in that field would understand the whole mind-body dichotomy is a fiction that isn't even all that useful anymore, but he approves morality education for kids as the cure for what ails our society -- from GPs overprescribing ADs to people seeking alternative therapies to some sort of "overexercise" culture. He essentially says that we pay lipservice to religion and moral character and look outside ourselves for salves for what ails us. I'm sure RJ Neuhaus' only gripes may be that Dworkin doesn't go far enough.
Yep, folks, it's true -- our ailments really are a fault of character, not chemistry.
So, maybe I will sit in and check out the morally-righteous lovefest this looks to be. I've got a couple of weeks to do some research and think up some good questions.
