Yep, read that book and played the recording of Prokofiev's Peter and The Wolf narrated by Lorne Greene where all the characters are played by different instruments till they were both worn out. I'm amazed that the book still has it's cover. The other one I remember is the "Coles Funny Picture Book", sadly it was beyond saving and I actually cried. G*d I'm pathetic.
