It's a great recycler of other antioxidants. He says the 'bowl test' will give tell you how much C you can tolerate. Basically the dose which gives u loose bowls.
Patrick also did much work with Dr Carl Pfeiffer who, together with Abram Hoffer used massive doses of C for conditions such as schizophrenia.
Perhaps the C wasn't the only culprit in causing stones but rather the former over C. Like calcium sorbate. I take plain ascorbic acid powdre. Or even not balancing it properly with other vits like niacin which Carl Pfeiffer also used a lot of. The aproach is called Ortho molecular medicine. Another popular poster on here swears by it.
